Durham pauses County Plan due to imminent Housing White Paper

The anticipated housing White Paper aimed at setting out what the Government is going to do to boost and improve the UK housing supply has been delayed until the New Year.

The paper, which will lay out Goverment plans on tackling the housing crisis and also give details on one million new homes that will be built by 2020 is more likely to be published towards the end of January 2017.

This paper could have a significant effect on Nation and Local Planning Policy as this could fundamentally change the number of houses that councils are required to plan for and could make changes to the methodology on which Local Plans are based.  With this in mind Durham County Council have already ‘paused’ the process for the County Durham Plan until details emerge in 2017.
