Planning House Revisited – Self Build

Sometimes its easy to forget the reason planning consultants do what they do – quite simply to make development happen! With that in mind, to focus on some of the positive outcomes of planning, Helen has been looking back at some of the tricky applications where approval was gained and development is starting to be delivered.

Visit 1 of the week… Helen had a wonderful time visiting a self-build site where she submitted an outline application for a dwelling followed by a reserved matters application. The applicants were delighted to show her around their “dream come true” and it was an amazing feeling to feel as though she was part of helping that happen.

The application wasn’t a smooth ride. Being outside development limits in a relatively remote location it was recommended for refusal, however Helen put the case to committee that the house provided much needed security, backed up by robust evidence of long standing issues with crime and anti-social behaviour. She also supported the application with a detailed planning statement including relevant appeal decisions to support the arguments in favour of the application.

It truly was fantastic to see this lovely home well underway!
