National Stay At Home Sleep Out

Lockdown has been hard for all of us. But imagine if you had no home, no bed, no food and nowhere you felt safe.

Coronavirus has hit the homeless hard and has driven more people to the streets as they’ve lost their jobs, can’t pay their rent and have struggled to feed their families. Some have been able to make use of empty hotel rooms, but when lockdown ends, they’ll be back on the streets.

The Planning House Team Chris & Claire* along with some friends joined in with the CEO sleepout on the 1st June. We swapped our beds for sleeping bags camping in our gardens.

CEO Sleepout is a charity set up to fight homelessness and poverty. Their fight is funded by big hearted people who pledge to sleep outdoors for one night to raise awareness and sponsorship.

DASH (Durham Action on Single Housing) is the amazing charity which Planning House chose to support earlier this year and are a charity who benefit from some of the money raised by this annual event.

The national volunteers who gave up their bed for the night and slept on their living room floor or in their garden – raising a combined total of £46,000. What an amazing achievement – well done to all involved!

To date, CEO Sleepout has raised over £2.7 million with over 3500 participants taking part in their nationwide annual events.

* Claire embarked on a new adventure from May 2021 leaving the team, we wish her the very best of luck
